Moi, earlier today, I sent a trace of the eg1 program which was blocking in the orb->destroy call. Further investigation has revealed that the machine itself had a configuration error. The IP address for the box was set incorrectly in /etc/hosts - that is, a different address from that of the NIC. My apologies to all. Kind Regards Andy Weaver
