Dear omniORB list members,

omniORB 3.0.0 is now available.

The only significant changes from pre-release 3 are:

  - the default port for the interoperable naming service has changed
to resolve the inconsistency between OMG documentation and the
    IANA registry.

  - A bug preventing system exceptions being inserted into Anys has
    been fixed.

  - Make rules for a number of platforms have been updated.

The following is the official announcement:

AT&T Laboratories Cambridge is pleased to announce the release of
omniORB version 3.0.0.

omniORB is a robust, high-performance CORBA 2.3 ORB. It is available
for free, under the terms of the GNU Public License; the libraries are
under the GNU Library Public License.

New in this release:

  - Support for the Portable Object Adapter (POA).

  - Support for the Interoperable Naming Service (INS).

  - New strict 2.3 compliant IDL compiler. With the new compiler, it
is easy to write your own customised code generators, using the
    Python scripting language.

  - Source-code compatible with omniORB 2's BOA mapping, so it is easy
    to migrate from omniORB 2.x.

In keeping with previous omniORB versions:

  - C++ language bindings are supported. The mapping conforms to the
latest revision of the CORBA specification.

  - The omniORB3 runtime is fully multithreaded.

  - A persistent COS Naming Service, omniNames, is provided.

omniORB 3.0.0 is available for many Unix platforms, Windows, and a
number of other operating systems. Pre-compiled binaries are available
for Windows (NT, 2000, and 9x), Solaris 2.5, Linux glibc2.1, HPUX 11,
and Irix 6.5.
