Hi Everyone,
I agree with Oli that we've got a great selection of photos to choose
from for the exhibition - we just need to get hold of some of the
printed/slide photos we saw in digital form and there won't be too much
whittling down to do on Wednesday.
I put together a book over the holiday of all my family's travel photos
as a present for my parents and the whole process went really well. If
anyone wants to have a look, I used a company in America called Blurb
(www.blurb.com <http://www.blurb.com>) and putting the book together
with the software they provide was pretty easy and it would offer lots
of flexibility for us to do something similar. There doesn't seem to be
much competition at the moment but the prices were fairly reasonable -
about £16-18 per 10x8" hardback book plus varying postage and packaging
options taking it to around £25 (but with a bulk order we could get it
down to £20). We can also put the book up for sale on their website and
they will print them to order for anyone else who wants it (with a
little profit going our way if we choose). It might be a good thing to
look at once we've got the exhibition sorted anyway.
Just two more things to mention - I've had an email from Dr Holmes
asking whether we have any photos he can use for the Record (the
magazine sent out to all old members of Queens') so if anyone has
anything to offer, please could you email the files to me ASAP and I'll
forward them on.
Also, for anyone who doesn't yet know, Oli and I went out and bought a
new tripod for anyone in the society to use a few days ago. It's well
built and should be excellent for anyone wanting to try a bit of night
photography (or anything else you might need it for). It's currently
residing in Oli's room but I think it'll probably be living in mine
(CC37) in the not too distant future so if you want to use it, it will
probably help if you give both of us an email in advance if you can.
But, if you have any spur of the moment urges to take photos, still feel
free to pop round and pick it up whenever you want. If I'm not in my
room when you need it, my mobile number is 07950 886856.
Sorry it's been a bit of a long email but I hope to see everyone on
Wednesday.
