Hello!!
This may be the first you've heard of from the photographic society since
signing up at the Arts Squash in the Fitzpat, if you remember it, so
hopefully I can explain a little about the club and what to expect.
Firstly, we'll run a few training sessions for those of you who want to
learn how to use the dark room in a couple of weeks - there'll be a sign-up
sheet in the porter's lodge, for groups of two for one hour on a couple of
evenings, during the week most probably. This will let you know how to
process B&W film and how to do B&W prints from negatives.
Then, once you've been taught (or if you already know), you will be able to
sign out the key to the darkroom from the porter's lodge (once I've sorted
out a member's list and given it to them) whenever you please and go and
spend some QT down there. All you need to provide is your own printing
paper - the chemicals & equipment are provided.
If you already know your way around the darkroom, here's some info. Once
I've fixed up the member's list and given it to the porters, you can sign
out the keys and access the darkroom which is at the bottom of R staircase
in the basement of Dokett. In there are the chemicals for film & paper
developing, stop & fixers. The enlarger is for colour, but no-one's done
colour for years; the filters are handy for selecting contrast on variable
contrast paper. There's a light box and magnifying loupe, and a thingy for
checking you've focused the enlarger exactly (if you know what that is).
I'm in the process of investing in a lightmeter for the club which will be
borrowable from me in the future, once I've gotten it.
At the end of this term or at the beginning of next term, Duncan Grisby, a
grad who used to be at Queens' will be running a figure photography
workshop. We've already asked some of you about modelling, and he'll have
been in touch with you about that, but if you're interested and haven't let
him know, then you can email him direct on models at queensphoto.org.
Duncan's also kindly set up a website for the club too:
http://www.queensphoto.org/ so check it out.
I think that's about it. If you've any ideas on things we could do with the
club - competitions, themes, meetings, etc, then just email the list on
queensphoto at queensphoto.org and see if you've got any takers!! If you use
the darkroom and it's low on chemicals or anything, email me and I'll sort
it as soon as I can.
If you've made it this far, you must be interested!! See you around
Ben
