The thing you're doing wrong is expecting showast to work. It
doesn't, and never has. Some of the code might illustrate how omniidl
works, but it doesn't actually run. I suppose making it work might be
a useful exercise for learning how to write omniidl back-ends.

I've just checked in a change which makes it more clear that showast
is broken.
