<font face="Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif">Hi Everyone,<br>
<br>
2pm next Saturday would be fine with me and it would be really good to
see as many people there as possible (or at a different time if its
more convenient for everyone else).<br>
<br>
I've done a bit of research on printers and found three that seem to
fit our budget and needs best. All the printers are around £70ish
(there's a big jump in prices after that to around £130 for printers
that don't seem to be any better for our needs) which would leave a
nice amount of money to invest in other equipment. If we could get some
extra money from the college an A3 printer would make a huge difference
though (they start at about £180). So, I've summarised 3 A4 printers
below and there are more detailed reviews online if anyone is
interested. <br>
<br>
<b>Canon PIXMA iP4500 - £64 - </b>9600x2400 dpi, 5 ink (CYM + 2K), USB
PictBridge, 3.87p per colour page (<a

<b>Epson Stylus Photo R360 - £81 - </b>5760x1440 dpi, 6 ink (CYMK +
light cyan & light magenta), USB PictBridge, Camera card slots, LCD
display, 51.9p per colour page (<a

review</a>)<br>
<b>HP Photosmart D7160 - £71 - </b>4800x1200 dpi, 6 ink (</font><font
face="Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif">CYMK + light cyan & light
magenta), USB PictBridge, Camera card slots, LCD display, 53.7p per
colour page (<a

<br>
The Canon seems to have the best print quality, it's reasonably fast
(compared to the Epson) and it's economical to run. All the printers
have PictBridge which means we don't need the printer to be hooked up
to a computer - we can just plug in our cameras (almost all of which
will have a printing feature built in). A camera card slot and LCD
display is a bonus but definitely not essential.<br>
<br>
All the prices are from eBuyer.com and they qualify for free delivery
along with a full set of free inks. There's not as much choice for A3
printers (and the prices go up quite steeply) but the A3 equivalent of
the Canon seems to be fairly reasonable at £184 (<a
href="http://www.ebuyer.com/product/110492">Canon Pixma Ix4000</a>).<br>
<br>
Sorry its been another long email but it would be good to get some
input from anyone if they have any thoughts about which printer to go
for (or any others that I've not mentioned) or a good place to keep it
and maybe we can come to a decision at the meeting next Saturday.<br>

As I've said, our exhibition is being brought forward this year to the
middle of this term, so we need to select our best pictures to show. As
with the previous years, there is no particular theme, just the very
best images you have. At our meeting on tuesday, we decided that it
would be a good idea to open a few exhibition places to members of
Queens who aren't photosoc members but may nevertheless have some
excellent pictures. This will help to publicise the society as well as
being a nice thing to do. I will send out an email to the JCR to have
it put in the newsletter.

<br>
How does Saturday the 2nd of Feb sound for a next meeting? 2pm in the
bar? Or would a weekday evening be better? PLEASE do let me know asap
which would be better as it's important that as many of you can make it
- it will involve bringing and judging pictures. And I need to send out
that email to the JCR asap. I will go with the majority preference.

We also have a tentative comittee who are thinking of running things,
Matthew Dingley as Mr. President, and Lizzie Robinson as Secretary. The
post of Treasurer is open and needing a taker. These positions can be
just a formality or as serious as you want, but really aren't that much
work, indeed I have found it to be a rewarding experience, and I'm all
three rolled into one big fat dictator :) Please let me know if you are
keen or even just interested. There is a Creative Arts Comittee meeting
on the 8th, which involves the President of QCPS, and other creative
types, having lunch with the President of College, so it would be nice,
but not essential, if things are sorted by then. The sandwiches are
really excellent!

It was decided at our little meeting that it's time to spend the £130
we have in the bank on a printer for all to use as so much work is
digital. I will try to squeeze a bit more money out of College to make
this an A3 one, they are very useful and worth the extra. I will do
this as my name is on the account and it's a bitch to change.
<br>
<br>
Sorry this has, yet agian, gone on a bit, do let me know about timings.
