Not only that, but he was out on bail for an attempted burglary. Unless
all the media attention puts him off, I expect he'll be straight back to
it as soon as he's out of prison (which will be about six months as long
as he behaves).

Now that's by far the best suggestion I've seen of how to deal with him.
