[omniORB] installation problem

i have a server application using omniORB3 written for linux.  in a
recent client installation using the library, the application fails to
completely initialize and throws an exception from
omniObjAdapter::initialise().  i am pretty sure the problem is due to a
network configuration issue on the computer but i cannot figure out what
is causing it.  the network adapter is working, the computer is set to
use dhcp and it resolves external hostnames correctly.  i have turned on
the tracelevel but it did not reveal anything other than where the
problem is.  any suggestions?
