Thats interesting - I would have said that Java programmers *should*
have to understand CORBA and the OMA, as should C++, C, Ada, etc
programmers developing heterogenous distributed systems using ORBs.

[ Of course you shouldn't have to know about implementation details
  such as mappings for languages you're not using ]
