Thank you for the response, Michael.
I have rebuilt everything and still am not able
to connect to omninames.

Has anyone else been able to get the Windows-95
package to run on a standalone system?
    HI,
try to recompile the whole omniorb2 package. I had the same problem =
and it had been fixed afterwards.

Hopefully someone can suggest why I am not able to run omniORB2
on my standalone Windows-95 system. I have not been able to =
find
obviously relevant info in the archives. Any help will be
appreciated. I very much would like to experiment and learn =
using
omniOrb2. To narrow the problem, I have tried to list all of =
the
details below. Thanks for your patience in reading them.

I have installed the Windows-95 binary release of version 2.6.0
and rebuilt the echo examples (only) with MSC++ 6 + Patchkit 1 =
and
gnu-win32-lite. The rebuilt example eg1 runs successfully,
eg2's IOR argument exceeds the DOS window cmd line length limit,
and eg3 fails in trying to contact the naming service.
        =20
The environment variable OMNIORB2_CONFIG is set to the filepath
of the configuration file (added after initial failures) which
        contains:
        NAMESERVICE IOR:. . .
        ORBInitialHost localhost
        ORBInitialPort 12345
        =20
Registry also contains the above 3 values; the IOR has been =
checked
against the nameservice.exe startup message; localhost is the =
only
entry in the \WINDOWS\Hosts file; the system was rebooted.
        =20
omninames (not rebuilt) is running: Checkpointing completed.
       =20
        =20
eg3_impl started, then eg3_clt started (in DOS windows).
        =20
        After some delay ...
        =20
eg3_impl: Caught system exception COMM_FAILURE, unable to =
contact the naming service.
       =20
eg3_clt: Caught system exception COMM_FAILURE, unable to contact =
the naming service.
hello: cannot invoke on a nil object reference.
       =20
        omninames is still running.
