Call for Papers for
--------------------

          a Special Session on

Middleware for High Performance Distributed Computing in
               Heterogeneous Environments,

organized at the 1998 International Conference on Parallel and
Distributed Processing Techniques and Applications (Pdpta'98) in
Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. July 13 - 16, 1998.

Description:
-------------

The objective of this session is to bring current research in the
distributed object computing community and the high performance
computing community closer together. The primary goal is to identify
the computational requirements of distributed high performance
applications in terms of middleware needs (i.e., required features,
services, and performance) and to determine whether current
state-of-the-art middleware meets these demands.

The session therefore invites contributions addressing :

	- distributed applications in heterogeneous environments
	- middleware architectures and case studies of their application
	  to high performance computing applications
	- high performance distributed application designs
	- compositional software architectures for distributed high
          performance applications
	- distributed object computing in heterogeneous environments
	- performance evaluations of current middleware and performance
evaluation of distributed applications identifying middleware
requirements, or the lack of support thereof
	- experience reports of middleware deployment (CORBA, DCE, DCOM,
          JavaRMI)
        - performance evaluation of the above
        - real-time middleware and case studies of its application
        - optimizations of middleware

Paper Submission :
-------------------

Papers must be submitted electronically no later than Sunday March
29th 1998 in postscript format to the session organization (see address
